A house built on designers
Moroso has made upholstered furniture since 1952, near Udine in northeastern Italy. It works with designers whose ideas link interiors with art, fashion and material research. Patricia Urquiola has the most chairs on this page, alongside Ron Arad, Diesel Living, Edward van Vliet and Tord Boontje. Choose the chair you love first, then check how it is built and where it can live.
How the indoor chairs are made
Many Moroso armchairs are shaped in cold-injected polyurethane over an internal steel frame, as on Armada and Ayub. Others are classic upholstery: Big Mama has a wooden structure on beech feet, with a goose-feather back cushion. Gentry holds feather-filled seat cushions with a polyurethane insert, on tubular steel bridge feet. Bohemian puts Urquiola's quilting on a steel swivel base. Where Moroso lists seat heights, they run from 37 to 44 cm (15 to 17 in).
Chairs for the garden
This page also holds outdoor pieces, and their materials differ. Moroso says its M'Afrique pieces, such as Husk and Shadowy, are made entirely by hand in Dakar, Senegal. Senegalese craftspeople weave polyethylene cord around steel, using the technique of local fishing nets. Each piece is unique, and Moroso does not count variations in color, weave or shape as defects. Ron Arad's The Big Easy and Little Albert, and Tord Boontje's O-Nest, are molded polyethylene with the color carried through the material. Ross Lovegrove's Supernatural is one piece of reinforced polypropylene and stacks. Urquiola's Tropicalia weaves polymer cord across a faceted steel frame.
Covers and fabrics
Most indoor chairs here come in fabric, and some also in leather. Some covers come off for cleaning, and on others the upholstery is fixed, so check the product page. Ask which fabrics are offered for your model. Ask for the house's care sheet too, for the fabric or, outdoors, the weave or polyethylene.
Ordering
Moroso pieces are made to order, typically 12–16 weeks. When you request a quote, give the model, the fabric or leather and its color, and the base. For outdoor chairs, say where the chair will stand and ask about cushions. We deliver to the 48 contiguous states. Plan a visit in Royal Oak, MI or Troy, MI to talk through Moroso designs and fabrics.
