What clients ask before working with Italcasa: authenticity, lead times, cost and how a project unfolds.
Design fees depend on scope — a single-room refresh and a full-home or commercial build sit at very different levels of involvement. We work on flat-fee, hourly, and percentage-of-furnishings models, and every engagement starts with a complimentary design consultation, so you'll have a clear picture of the investment before you commit to anything.
Authentic — never Italian-style. Our core is the top Italian houses, made in Italy by the original manufacturer: Cappellini, Moroso, Flos, Driade, Cattelan Italia and Natuzzi Italia among them. We represent select European names alongside them, such as Moooi and Vibia, and we're clear about origin either way. We're an authorized dealer with direct trade relationships, so the piece you receive carries the same provenance, materials, and warranty as one bought from the brand's own showroom.
Yes. Roughly a third of our projects ship outside Metro Detroit — we coordinate nationwide installations, work remotely with your local architect or builder, and handle white-glove delivery and assembly through our logistics partners. Many clients visit the Royal Oak or Michigan Design Center showroom once, then complete the rest of the project virtually.
Made-to-order pieces typically run 12–16 weeks from Italy. Custom upholstery and made-to-measure work can extend beyond the standard window — we confirm your exact timeline at order and provide shipment tracking once your pieces leave the factory.
Yes — through our Scavolini, Composit, and Officine Gullo partnerships, we design and install complete Italian kitchens and baths, coordinating with your contractor on plumbing, electrical, and millwork. Our team manages specification, 3D rendering, ordering, and installation so the finished space matches the design intent exactly.
We're a design studio first and a retailer second. Since 1985 we've operated as licensed interior designers with an in-house design team, two Metro Detroit showrooms, and direct relationships with the top Italian manufacturers — so a single point of contact handles concept, specification, procurement, and installation rather than handing you off between vendors.
No. You're welcome to visit either showroom or browse the catalog and request a quote on individual pieces — many clients start with one statement piece and grow the relationship over time. Design services are available when you want them, never required.
Authentic Italian furniture is designed and manufactured in Italy by houses like Cappellini, Moroso, Cattelan Italia, and Natuzzi Italia — using full-grain Italian leather, kiln-dried hardwood frames, and finishing techniques refined over generations. 'Italian-style' usually means a piece designed elsewhere that imitates the silhouette without the materials, construction, or warranty. The Italian houses we carry are the real thing: produced in Italy, shipped from the original factory, and backed by the manufacturer.
Italcasa operates two Metro Detroit showrooms with live Italian furniture displays: our flagship on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, and our Michigan Design Center studio in Troy. Both carry working vignettes from the houses we represent — Natuzzi Italia, Cattelan Italia, Cappellini, and Moroso among them — plus full material and finish libraries. Royal Oak is open to walk-ins; for the Michigan Design Center studio we'd suggest calling ahead so a designer is free to walk you through it.
Yes — full-grain Italian leather is widely regarded as the benchmark for upholstery. It's tanned from top-quality European hides, retains the natural grain (rather than being sanded and embossed like corrected-grain leather), and develops a richer patina over time instead of cracking. Paired with the kiln-dried hardwood frames and high-resilience cushions Italian houses like Natuzzi Italia and Cattelan Italia use, a well-built Italian leather sofa typically lasts 20–30 years with basic care.
Dust weekly with a soft dry cloth and vacuum the seams with a brush attachment. For routine cleaning, wipe with a barely-damp microfiber cloth and dry immediately — never soak the leather. Condition every 6–12 months with a pH-neutral leather conditioner recommended by the manufacturer; avoid alcohol, ammonia, baby wipes, and 'all-purpose' cleaners, which strip the finish. For spills, blot (don't rub) right away. Italcasa provides care instructions specific to your hide and finish at delivery.
Yes. Our studio at the Michigan Design Center in Troy is open Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday by appointment. We'd recommend calling ahead either way so a designer is free to walk you through the space. Our Royal Oak flagship on Woodward Avenue is open to walk-ins Monday through Saturday, and Sunday afternoons.
Reach out through our contact page for a complimentary 30-minute consultation, or visit either showroom — Royal Oak on Woodward Ave or Michigan Design Center in Troy. We'll discuss your space, timeline, and budget, then recommend the right level of service: full design, furniture-only specification, or kitchen and bath.
