Choosing a Flos pendant, the light before the look.
Classics and new designs
Flos has made Italian lighting since 1962. Its pendants include Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's Splügen Bräu, Achille Castiglioni's Taraxacum 88 and Gino Sarfatti's 2097 chandelier. Newer work includes Michael Anastassiades's IC Lights and Arrangements, the Bouroullec brothers' Aim and Belt, and Marcel Wanders's Skygarden. Start with the look you love, then check the light it gives and how it hangs.
Built-in LED or a bulb
About half the Flos pendants here have built-in LED; the rest take a bulb, mostly in an E26 socket. Most are dimmable, and some come with the dimmer included. Built-in LED is most often a warm 2700 K, with some models offering 3000 K or 4000 K. Several list a color rendering index of 90 or 95, and Workmates' Full Spectrum version reaches 98. Check the light output in lumens for the size of your room.
Height, cords and weight
Hanging height matters most over a table or an island. Many Flos pendants come with about 8.9 ft of cord, and others with 13.1 ft or more. Some adjust by design: Diabolo winds its cable into the ceiling rose, and OK slides along a tensioned cable. Weight varies widely, from under a pound to more than 60 lb. The 2097/75 weighs about 66 lb and Luce Orizzontale up to about 90, so confirm the ceiling can carry it.
Ratings and installation
Every Flos pendant on this page is rated IP20, for dry locations only. Most are UL listed. Voltage depends on the model: most run on 120 V, some on 120 to 277 V, and a few on 48 V. Plan the wiring with your electrician before you order, especially for multi-point systems.
Ordering
Flos pendants are made to order, typically 12–16 weeks. When you request a quote, name the model, size and finish, the color temperature, and whether you want LED or a bulb version. Send the ceiling height and what the light will hang over. We deliver to the 48 contiguous states. Plan a visit in Royal Oak, MI or Troy, MI to talk through Flos lighting for your rooms.
