Italian Office Furniture & Workplace Design.
Executive suites, conference rooms, and reception spaces furnished with the top Italian houses — specified, imported, and installed. Showrooms in Metro Detroit. Projects nationwide. Since 1985.
What is contract-grade office furniture?
The plain answer first, then what changes when the room is a workplace rather than a home.
Office interior design decides how a workplace presents and performs: reception that carries the brand, conference rooms that seat clients well, executive suites, and workstations rated for daily use. An office furniture partner specifies each piece to contract grade, then manages delivery and installation around your lease and move-in dates.
Contract grade is the part people underestimate. A task chair tested to BIFMA cycle counts, a conference table built to be sat at eight hours a day, textiles rated for commercial abrasion — these are not the same products sold for a home office in the same silhouette. Office work sits inside commercial interior design as its own discipline because the furniture is used by people who did not choose it, every working day, for a decade.
Italcasa works both halves. We plan the floor and draw the reception, boardroom, and executive suites, then supply them direct from the Italian and European houses — imported, warehoused, and installed by the team that drew the plan. It is why our Royal Oak showroom is the one Metro Detroit companies come to for Italian office furniture rather than a catalog.
Office Interior Design for Modern Workplaces.
A workplace is counted in workstations, judged at reception, and handed over on a date the landlord set. Six constraints shape every specification we write for an office.
- Workstations
The unit of work is the workstation.
Headcount drives everything: how many desks, how many task chairs, how much storage, how many seats in the rooms people book. We build the package per workstation and multiply it, so a seating upgrade or a sit-stand base is costed across the whole floor before anyone signs off.
- Reception
Reception is the brand statement.
It is the one room every client, candidate, and courier sees, and the only chance the space has to say what the company is before anyone speaks. It gets specified like a hotel lobby — a considered seating group, a signature light, and a desk that reads as architecture rather than furniture.
- Contract Grade
Task seating is not residential seating.
A chair used eight hours a day by someone who did not pick it needs BIFMA-rated cycle testing, real adjustability, and a warranty measured in years of daily use. We specify task and guest seating to contract standards, and we are direct about where a beautiful residential piece does and doesn't belong on a floor plate.
- Acoustics
Open plans fail on sound, not on space.
Speech privacy in a boardroom and speech clarity on a call are two different problems, and both get solved with the furniture as much as the ceiling — upholstered screens, acoustic panels, absorptive textiles, and enclosed touchdown rooms placed where the noise actually is.
- Technology
Cable management decides how the room looks.
A boardroom table is a technology fixture: power and data pathways, floor-box alignment, screen and camera sightlines, and grommets specified before the top is cut. Retrofitting this after delivery is how a beautiful table ends up with a power strip taped underneath.
- The Lease Clock
Lease commencement is not negotiable.
You start paying rent on a date the landlord set, and imported furniture has production and ocean lead times that no amount of urgency shortens. We schedule backward from move-in day, flag long-lead items at specification, and stage in our warehouse so delivery waits on the building, not the boat.
- Codes & Standards
What we specify against.
Every seating, casegood, and workstation item is checked against these before the order is placed.
- BIFMA / ANSI performance and durability testing for task, guest, and conference seating
- ADA and ANSI A117.1 clearances, reception counters, and accessible routes
- CAL 117 flammability for upholstered seating; CAL 133 where occupancy requires it
- Commercial abrasion (double rubs) and cleanability ratings on all upholstery textiles
- Ergonomic adjustability standards for daily-use task seating
- Building and landlord rules — loading dock windows, freight elevator limits, floor loading
Space Planning, Specification, and Procurement Under One Roof.
Most office fit-outs lose their schedule in the gap between the space plan and whoever buys from it. We do both, so the reception you approved is the reception that lands on the truck.
Reception & lobby design
The arrival sequence, desk, and waiting seating specified as the company's first impression — the one room in the office that has to perform like a hospitality space.
Executive suites
Desks, credenzas, guest seating, and lighting for principal offices, specified as a coordinated suite rather than a catalog line item.
Conference & boardrooms
Tables sized to the room and the screen, seating rated for long meetings, and power and data pathways designed into the top before it's built.
Lounge & collaboration areas
Touchdown seating, café and pantry areas, and the informal rooms hybrid teams actually use — furnished so they get booked rather than bypassed.
Task & guest seating specification
Contract-rated chairs matched to the hours they'll be sat in, with adjustability, textiles, and warranty terms compared side by side in our showroom.
Lighting packages
Architectural and decorative lighting specified together — task levels at the desk, glare control on screens, and a fixture over the boardroom table that reads as design.
Move-in-scheduled delivery & install
Import, freight, customs, warehousing, and white-glove installation sequenced to your build-out and lease commencement, with the punch list closed before day one.

Budget, spec, and install are planned per workstation — so a seating change is costed across the whole floor before it's approved.
Built Backward From Move-In Day.
An office package has one fixed date and it isn't ours: lease commencement. Every stage below is scheduled backward from the day your people sit down, with import lead times taken off the front, not the end.
- 01Kickoff
Programming & Headcount
How many people, in what mix of roles, on what hybrid pattern — plus the rooms you actually need versus the rooms you think you need. This is where the workstation count and the room schedule get set.
- 02Planning
Space Plan
The floor plate laid out: workstation blocks, private offices, meeting rooms, reception, and circulation, tested against the lease drawings and the landlord's base-building conditions before anything is specified.
- 03Specification
Per-Workstation Specification
Every piece specified line by line — desks, task and guest seating, storage, conference tables, lounge, lighting — with finish samples in hand, textiles rated, and long-lead imports flagged against the move-in date.
- 04Production
Order, Import & Staging
Factory orders placed, ocean and domestic freight and customs managed, and the whole package staged in our warehouse so it's complete and inspected before it goes near your building.
- 05Move-in
Install to Lease Commencement
Delivery booked into the freight-elevator and dock windows, floors set to plan, technology coordinated with your AV and IT vendors, and the punch list closed before your people sit down.
Italian Office Furniture, From the Houses That Build It.
We hold direct relationships with the top Italian and European houses, and we specify from them by where the piece sits in the floor plan — a boardroom table is a different problem from a touchdown stool.
Executive & boardroom
Where the company is judged.
- Cattelan Italia
Executive desks and boardroom tables in stone, glass, and wood — the Cattelan Italia desk is the piece a principal office is usually built around.
- Bonaldo
Sculptural conference and meeting tables for rooms where the table has to carry the design rather than sit under it.
- Tonelli
Glass tables and consoles, specified where a boardroom wants transparency and light instead of mass.
Seating & lounge
The pieces people spend the day in.
- Bensen
Refined lounge and meeting seating with contract construction — reception groups and executive guest chairs that stay comfortable through a long meeting.
- LaPalma
Café, meeting, and touchdown seating including the LEM stool, built for the informal rooms that get the heaviest, least predictable use.
- Lago
Modular office and wall systems for storage, partitioning, and workstation blocks that need to be reconfigured as the headcount moves.
Lighting
Task levels, glare control, and one statement.
- Vibia
Architectural office lighting with the beam control an open plan needs and decorative families that keep a workplace from reading institutional.
- Flos
Task and architectural fixtures, specified for the light on the desk and the glare that isn't on the screen.
- Lodes
Decorative pendants and wall fixtures for reception, boardroom, and lounge, where the fixture is part of the first impression.
We Furnish Offices in Any State.
An office package runs off a drawing set and a headcount, which makes it well suited to remote work. We furnish workplaces across the country from Metro Detroit; the only difference is that the walkthroughs are on video and the samples come to you.
Video walkthrough and plan review
You walk the space on camera or send the architect's drawings and the headcount matrix. We work from the same plan set your GC and landlord have.
Digital specification package
Space plan, renderings, and the per-workstation specification and quantity schedule delivered digitally, with revisions handled in video sessions on your time zone.
Samples shipped for sign-off
Finish, wood, and textile samples couriered to you, and a chair sent out for trial where the seating decision warrants sitting in it before sixty are ordered.
Freight and white-glove install in any state
We manage factory orders, freight, and clearance, then coordinate local white-glove installation into your dock and elevator windows and walk the punch list with your PM.

Executive Office Furniture Near You — Royal Oak & Troy.
Bring the floor plate and the headcount into either showroom and sit in the chairs before you buy sixty of them. Desks, conference tables, and task seating are on the floor, so a package can be narrowed in one afternoon instead of three rounds of shipped samples.
Office furniture & design questions.
The questions facilities directors and business owners actually open with. If yours isn't here, ask us directly — we answer specifics, not generalities.
What are the best Italian office furniture brands?
The houses we specify most often for workplaces are Cattelan Italia for executive desks and boardroom tables, Bonaldo and Tonelli for statement and glass conference tables, Lago for modular office and wall systems, LaPalma for café, meeting, and touchdown seating, Bensen for refined lounge and guest seating, and Vibia, Flos, and Lodes for architectural and decorative office lighting. Which ones belong in your project depends on the floor plate, the headcount, and how the reception and boardroom are meant to read — the selection follows the specification, not a preferred-vendor list.
What is contract-grade office furniture?
Contract grade means furniture engineered, tested, and warranted for commercial use rather than residential use. In practice that is BIFMA-rated performance and cycle testing on task, guest, and conference seating, textiles rated for commercial abrasion and cleaning, casegood construction and edge details built for daily abuse, and warranty terms written around eight-hour-a-day occupancy. A residential chair in the same silhouette may look identical on a floor plan and fail in eighteen months of real use.
What does office interior design include?
Programming and headcount planning, the space plan for workstations, private offices, meeting rooms and circulation, then finishes, lighting, and the full furniture specification for reception, executive suites, conference and boardrooms, lounge and collaboration areas, and the workstations themselves — coordinated with your architect, general contractor, and AV and IT vendors. On our projects it also covers the buying: procurement, import, freight, warehousing, and installation, by the team that drew the plan.
How long does it take to furnish an office?
The schedule is driven by two things: the import lead times on the pieces you choose, and your lease commencement date. We schedule backward from move-in day and flag long-lead items during specification so the choice between a piece and its delivery date is made early, when it's still a choice. Bring us in as soon as the lease is signed and the furniture almost never becomes the critical path.
Can you furnish an office outside Michigan?
Yes. Our showrooms are in Metro Detroit and we run workplace projects nationwide. Remote projects run on video walkthroughs and plan reviews, a digital space plan and per-workstation specification package, physical finish and textile samples couriered for sign-off, and a chair sent out for trial where the seating decision warrants it — then import, freight, and local white-glove installation coordinated into your building's dock and elevator windows by our team.
Do you work with our architect or GC?
Routinely, and it works best when we're in early. We work from the same drawing set, coordinate the furniture package against base-building conditions, power and data locations, and floor boxes, and hand the GC and your AV vendor the dimensions they need before anything is fabricated. Where there is no architect on the project, we do the space planning ourselves and coordinate directly with the landlord and the build-out contractor.
