Choosing a round coffee table, size, height and top.
Diameter and height
Start with the diameter and the height. Diameters here run from about 30 to 150 cm (12 to 59 in), with 60, 80, 100 and 120 cm the most common sizes. Heights run from 24.5 cm (10 in) to about 48 cm (19 in). Many sit at 36 to 40 cm (14 to 16 in). Compare the height with your sofa's seat; Natuzzi Italia's Cava, for example, is 100 cm across and 32 cm high.
One table or a group
Many round tables come as families in several sizes and heights, made to stand alone or to cluster. Arketipo's Ula uses different heights to build layered groups. Bonaldo's Frinfri comes in three heights with a removable tray, and its Harpe sets marble, ceramic, metal or glass tops at different levels. Cattelan Italia's Arena Bond adds smaller tables with swiveling glass tops around the main one. Opinion Ciatti's Tab.Ulone hides wheels beneath, so it moves easily beside a sofa.
The top, and how it wears
Glass is the most common top here, followed by wood, marble and ceramic. Reflex Angelo's "40" coffee tables set clear glass on Murano-glass bases. Tonelli's Oasis is blown by Murano glass artisans, and changes in glass thickness shift its color. Some tables suit the outdoors too: Gufram's Attica TL works indoors and out. For care, Pianca suggests vinegar diluted in plenty of water for glass. For marble, it advises water and a mild cleaner, and rinsing off coffee, wine or oil at once. Cattelan Italia cleans ceramic with a wet sponge and mild detergent, with no abrasives.
Storage and extras
A few round tables add storage. Natuzzi Italia's Cava has open compartments beneath the top for books and small objects. Bonaldo's Frinfri has a tray that lifts off its frame. Check the drawings for the size of the base as well as the top.
