Driade Costes brings together Philippe Starck’s Costes chair and its broader Pratfall lounge development.
Curved wooden shells surround leather-covered seats, with three angled steel legs supporting each design. Costes was created for the Paris café of the same name in 1984, using a compact enclosing form. Pratfall expands the shell and seat into a lounge chair while retaining the visible relationship between curved wood, leather and the three-legged structure.
Philippe Starck's collaboration with Emeco began after he used the manufacturer's Navy chairs in the Paramount Hotel. The partnership produced collections including Hudson, Heritage, Kong, Icon and Broom. These projects are part of his broader furniture design work and explore industrial materials and production methods.
