All designersChoosing Calligaris dining chairs, a century of seating.
Chairs are where Calligaris began
Calligaris started in Manzano in 1923 by making wooden chairs, and seating is still at the heart of the range. Most chairs on this page are upholstered, on wooden or metal legs. Others are molded in one material. Liberty and Skin are polypropylene, and Parisienne and Saint Tropez are polycarbonate. Several of these stack, and Liberty and Skin are suited to outdoor use as well.
Seat and arm height
Heights are listed on most Calligaris chairs here. Most seats sit about 18⅝ in (47 cm) from the floor, with a range of roughly 17⅜ to 19⅜ in. Arm heights run from about 24⅞ to 29⅝ in on the chairs with arms. Compare the arm height with the underside of your table, so the chairs tuck in. Many designs, such as Foyer, Holly and Igloo, come with or without arms.
Frames, shells and swivels
Look at the build behind the cover. Claire has a solid ash frame, and Abrey shows its wooden frame, with rear legs rising to hold the back. Foyer pads a plywood shell over a seat on elastic belts, with a cutout at the back that serves as a grip. Cocoon wraps seat, back and arms in one shell of cold-foamed polyurethane. Romy sits on a cantilever base. Several chairs swivel. Basil and Saint Tropez come on swivel bases, some returning to their starting position, and one Basil version turns a full 360 degrees.
Coverings and care
Calligaris says it offers more than 100 leather and fabric coverings. Velvet appears on Fifties and Love, and Aida uses regenerated leather. A few, like Fay, have removable covers. Calligaris describes its coverings as made to be durable and functional. For wooden frames, it says it protects solid wood and veneer with special coatings that resist stains.
Ordering
