Let's DesignHow to light a room in layers
A well-lit room has three layers: ambient light from a pendant, chandelier or ceiling fixture, task light from a floor or table lamp where you read and work, and accent light from wall lights and spots that wash a wall or pick out a painting. Plan them together, with the pendant over the table as the room's anchor and the lamps placed where people actually sit. The houses here each bring something: Flos and Fontana Arte the classics and the architectural systems, Foscarini and Slamp blown glass and handmade resin, Marset and Vibia from Spain, Lodes slender clusters and discs. Our designers plan lighting as part of the whole interior, from your floor plan or a visit in Metro Detroit.
LED, dimming and North American versions
Most of the fixtures here are LED, and most are dimmable, by a wall dimmer, a dimmer on the cord or a touch control on the lamp itself; tell us your dimmer or smart-home system and we check compatibility before you order. Every light is ordered in the version the house makes for the North American market, and the spec sheet on each product page states its voltage, light source, color temperature, dimming and listing. The materials are the houses' own: blown and Murano glass, spun and die-cast aluminum, steel, resin and fabric shades. Several table and outdoor lamps are rechargeable and need no wiring at all. For a whole room, our designers hand your electrician a fixture schedule with beam angles and color temperatures.
Hanging heights and lamp sizes
Over a dining table a pendant hangs 30 to 36 inches above the top and measures one half to two thirds of the table's width; in an entry or over stairs the lowest point stays at least 7 feet from the floor. A chandelier in a living room clears 7 feet as well, and a ceiling under about 8 feet 6 inches takes a flush or semi-flush fixture instead. A reading lamp's shade sits just above shoulder height when you are seated, about 40 to 48 inches; an arc lamp lights a sofa from behind without a table. Bedside wall lights sit about 20 inches above the mattress. Most pendants come with cable to shorten on site, and sloped-ceiling canopies and longer drops are available on request.
Ordering lighting from an authorized dealer
Lights are made to order in the North American version and typically ship in 12–16 weeks; your quote states the lead time for each fixture. The site shows no prices because a fixture is quoted in its finish, size, cable length and version: request a quote on any piece and a designer confirms the specification, with delivery, before any deposit. We ship to all 48 contiguous states, by parcel for lamps and crated for chandeliers and large pendants, and we are an authorized dealer for every house here, so each fixture carries the maker's warranty. Hanging and wiring are by your electrician, or by our team in Metro Detroit. See the lights lit at our showrooms in Royal Oak, MI, and in Troy at the Michigan Design Center.

Are these lights made for North American wiring?
We order every light in the version the house makes for the North American market. The spec sheet linked on each product page states the voltage, bulb or LED source, and the listing for that fixture, and we confirm it again on your quote.
Can the lights be dimmed?
Most of the LED fixtures here are dimmable, and the product page says which dimming system a piece uses. Tell us what dimmer or smart-home system you have and we check compatibility before you order.
Do you help plan the lighting for a whole room?
Yes. Our in-house designers plan lighting as part of the interior, from the pendant over the table to the reading lamp beside the sofa, and can work from your floor plan or a site visit in Metro Detroit. Ask for it when you request a quote.
