Dining Chairs, by house.
How to choose dining chairs you will sit in for hours
A dining chair is judged at the end of a long dinner, so start with comfort: a seat about 18 to 19 inches high with a little give, a back that supports the lower spine, and arms only where the table and the room allow them. Then decide the look, an upholstered chair for warmth, a molded shell for a lighter room, a wood frame for a classic table, and whether to mix: two designs at one table, or armchairs at the ends and side chairs along the sides, is a common Italian way to set a room. The houses here are the dining specialists: Calligaris, Connubia and Peressini Casa for upholstered and shell chairs in every cover, Cattelan Italia for sculptural seats, Caracole for a classic line, Mater from Denmark in solid wood and recycled materials.
Fabric, leather, shells and frames
Fabric gives the widest choice of color and the softest sit, and most houses offer stain-resistant weaves for a family table. Leather wears in and wipes clean; faux leather does the same at a lighter weight. Molded resin and polypropylene shells are the easiest of all to keep and often stack. Frames come in wood, lacquered or natural, and in steel or aluminum, painted, brushed or chromed; many of the chairs here are built to contract grade, the standard of restaurants and hotels. Nearly every chair is made to order in the house's own range of covers and finishes, and the same cover can be ordered across a chair and a stool so the counter and the table match. Swatches of every cover travel to your door.
Seat height, table height and how many fit
Match the chair to the table before anything else: a seat 18 to 19 inches high suits a top at 29 to 30 inches, with 10 to 12 inches between the two so legs cross comfortably. Allow 24 inches of table edge per chair, 26 to 28 for a chair with arms, and check that an armchair's arms pass under the table's apron. Keep 36 inches behind the chairs so they pull out without touching the wall. Order two more chairs than you seat every day, so a dinner for eight does not borrow from the office, and keep them as the extra seats in the living room. We check seat and table heights for every pairing before it is quoted.
Ordering dining chairs from Italcasa
Dining chairs are made to order by the house, in the cover and frame you choose, and typically ship in 12–16 weeks. Nothing is sold as a set, so you order exactly the number and mix you want, and the site shows no prices because each chair is tailored: request a quote and a designer prices your chairs, with delivery, before any deposit. We deliver white-glove to all 48 contiguous states, unwrapping the chairs and setting them at the table, and every house here comes with the maker's warranty through us, their authorized dealer. Sit in the chairs at our showrooms in Royal Oak, MI, and in Troy at the Michigan Design Center, against the actual tables.

What seat height should a dining chair have?
Most dining chairs here have a seat height of about 18 to 19 inches, which suits a table top at 29 to 30 inches. The exact seat height is listed on each product page, and we check it against your table before quoting.
Can I order dining chairs in a different fabric or leather?
Yes. Nearly every chair is made to order in the house's own range of fabrics, leathers and frame finishes, and we send swatches to your door. Mixing two covers around one table is common.
How many chairs should I order, and how long will they take?
Order two more than you seat every day, so a dinner for eight does not borrow from the office. Chairs are made to order and typically ship in 12–16 weeks, delivered white-glove to all 48 contiguous states.
