Calligaris Apian includes extending dining tables supported by curved, inclined double-sheet metal bases.
The coated sheets form a central architectural support beneath the rectangular surface. Apian uses two manually opened side leaves to reach 118 ⅛ inches, while Apian Plus uses its own patented extension mechanism to achieve that length. The related pedestal forms connect the two versions, with the tabletop opening arrangement remaining specific to each model.
Ellen Bernhardt and Paola Vella founded their Milan studio in 2008. Their work connects product design with interiors, drawing on research into art, architecture and earlier design. The practice approaches individual objects in relation to the spaces around them and works across projects of different scales.
