Which seats should recline
On a modular reclining sofa, you choose which seats move. Natuzzi Italia and Nicoline mix stationary seats with powered recliners in the same layout. On their stationary seats, the headrest usually adjusts by hand. Nicoline's Antares goes further: its stationary seats have powered headrests that rise by 20 cm (8 in). Decide where each person sits, then put the recliners there.
Powered, manual or articulated
Powered seats on Nicoline's Canaletto, Pisa and Wagner move the headrest and footrest independently. Natuzzi Italia's Wellbe uses three motors on selected seats, for headrest, lumbar support and footrest. Not every reclining sofa has a motor. Moroso's Highlands and Shanghai Tip have articulated backs on steel mechanisms that raise or lower. Talenti's Elton adjusts both backs and arms on galvanized-steel mechanisms, and Pianca's Duo changes its back angle by hand.
Walls, outlets and space
Many of Natuzzi Italia's powered seats use forward-moving mechanisms. These let a seat recline close to a wall, with less clearance behind. Check where the power comes from. Nicoline offers an optional battery for each powered seat, so it can run away from an outlet. Measure for the footrest when open. Talenti's Elton comes 240 cm (94 in) or 310 cm (122 in) wide. Natuzzi Italia's Mindful chaise sectional is 284 × 178 cm (112 × 70 in).
Comfort, covers and care
Natuzzi Italia uses memory-foam seat layers on families such as Duca, Fidelio and Volo. Moroso's Shanghai Tip has goose-down seat cushions over polyurethane inserts, and its covers come off. Nicoline builds on wooden frames with reinforced elastic webbing. For leather, Natuzzi Italia's care guide asks you to dust with a clean, dry, non-abrasive white cloth. Blot spills at once, then use the Natuzzi cleaner, and never dry leather in direct sun.
