Cappellini Proust is an armchair family by Alessandro Mendini with carved beech frames and patterns that continue across wood and fabric.
The original uses a dotted composition, while Proust Geometrica replaces the dots with blocks of color. Both use hand-carved, hand-painted frames around multi-density foam padding and fixed upholstery. The versions retain the same 41¼ inch overall width and elaborate curved outline, changing the surface design rather than the chair's proportions.
Alessandro Mendini worked as an architect, designer, artist, editor and design theorist. He participated in Global Tools and Alchimia and edited magazines including Casabella and Domus. In 1989 he founded Atelier Mendini with his brother Francesco, developing objects, furniture, interiors, installations and architecture.
