Alain Gilles
Alain Gilles is a Belgian designer born in Brussels in 1970. He studied political science and marketing and spent five years in finance at J.P. Morgan before returning to school for industrial design in France, worked for Arne Quinze as designer and project manager, and opened his own studio in Brussels at the end of 2007 for product and furniture design, art direction and scenography. His partnership with Bonaldo began in 2008 with the Tectonic coffee tables and in 2009 produced the Big Table, whose legs are laser-cut and folded steel plates; it won the Good Design Award that year and became the house's signature, marked with a special edition for its tenth anniversary. His Welded table for Bonaldo received the Red Dot Best of the Best in 2013, he was named Designer of the Year at the Interieur fair in Kortrijk in 2012, and his work carries the Henry van de Velde label. On this site his pieces appear across Bonaldo and Mogg.
