Romano Marcato
Romano Marcato is the engineer behind LaPalma, the Italian furniture house he founded with his brother Dario at the end of the 1970s near Padua, where he was born in 1951. He finished technical school in mechanical engineering in 1970 and spent the decade designing precision tooling and automatic machines for the automotive and electronics industries before turning to furniture. At LaPalma he has chosen the designers the house works with and overseen the engineering and development of every product, and he has designed many himself: the Brunch and Panco tables, the Wil stool, the Brio and Yo tables and the Aria chair. The house's stools, chairs, tables and shelving on this site reflect that engineer's approach, in which a piece is built to last and its mechanism is part of its design.
