Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck is a French designer born in Paris in 1949, the son of an aeronautics engineer. He trained at the École Camondo in Paris, set up his first company at the end of the 1960s and made his name in the 1970s and 1980s with interiors: the Paris nightclubs La Main Bleue and Les Bains-Douches, the private apartments of the Élysée Palace in 1983, and the Café Costes in 1984. From the early 1980s his studio has designed furniture, lighting and objects for houses including Alessi, Driade, Flos, Kartell and Vitra, among them the Miss Dorn and Lola Mundo chairs for Driade and the Miss Sissi and Rosy Angelis lamps for Flos. His collaboration with Emeco began after he used the house's Navy chairs in the Paramount Hotel in New York, and produced the Hudson, Heritage, Kong, Icon and Broom collections. On this site his pieces appear across Driade, Emeco, Flos and Heller.
