Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders is a Dutch designer born in Boxtel in 1963. He graduated with honors from the arts academy in Arnhem in 1988 and opened his own studio in Amsterdam in 1995. The Knotted Chair of 1996, a seat of knotted rope stiffened with resin and produced by Droog Design, brought his work international attention. In 2001 he co-founded Moooi with Casper Vissers and remains its art director. His studio designs furniture, lighting, objects and interiors, including hotels and restaurants, for houses across Europe, drawing on historical references, decorative traditions and the differences between cultures. He was Elle Decoration's Designer of the Year in 2006, and his designs are held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
