Driade launches the re-edition of Pratfall, the armchair designed by Philippe Starck in 1983, a universal design icon that marked the beginning of the successful collaboration between Philippe Starck and Driade.
With this in mind, Philippe Starck decided to remove 1 leg from a chair. The Costes chair was born from this purely technical Economy, since in a grand café like the Café Costes, removing 1 leg from each of the 300 chairs creates 300 fewer occasions for the waiter to trip over and spill his large tray of glasses.
At the same time, Philippe Starck was creating the private apartments of the Palais de L’Élysée for François Mitterrand, President of the French Republic. For the president’s private office, Starck imagined a place geared towards meditation and for which he created an extremely Economical and comfortable 3-leg seat, which became the Pratfall armchair, produced by Driade from 1985 to 2003.
Driade and Starck present new finishes to celebrate the success of Pratfall.
Compact, intelligent, accessible, comfortable, this armchair has become one of the most emblematic pieces of contemporary furniture.
